Our training and awards courses range from a taster day to a navigation weekend
We are accredited with the National Navigation Awards Scheme (NNAS) and Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL). Currently, we deliver the NNAS Outdoor Discovery Awards

As well as our regular scheduled courses, we also offer bespoke courses and workshops to individuals and other groups so the training can be tailored to your specific objectives. For many of our courses we make full use of the stunning countryside surrounding Greater Manchester and Derbyshire but we do also use other National Parks and AONB. However, we are always open to requests for customised courses and a location convenient and relevant for you.
1:1 private instructing from £90 per day (6 hours)
1:1 private instructing from £65 per half day (3 hours)
There is a supplemental fee for each additional person of £35 up to a maximum group size of 4. Larger groups can be accommodated on request.
NAVIGATION SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
If you’ve done some map reading before and want to gain more confidence navigating away from paths on open countryside in more complex terrain this course is for you.
You will also learn accurate compass work and an ability to use appropriate navigational techniques to go across country in some cases, eg. choosing an appropriate attack point.
You will gain a Level 3 National Navigation Award Scheme award
JUNIOR NAVIGATOR
A fun relaxed one-day course aimed at young adventurers with a passion for exploring the outdoors. At the end of the day the children will be confident in the basic principles of map reading, compass work and other navigation skills
OUTDOOR DISCOVERY AWARD
The Outdoor Discovery Award or ODA is ideal for people of all ages who wish to learn basic navigation skills at a gentle rate, encouraging them to gain and improve personal confidence to get out and get active. The Awards has been developed to help group leaders introduce the basic elements of navigation to people who want to explore outside. You will learn all the necessary skills through a series of games and adventurous activities.
INTRODUCTION TO MAPS
A practical one day introduction to map reading on either in Greater Manchester and Derbyshire, aimed at those with little or no experience of using a map and compass.
Held in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the aim of this fun introductory navigation course is to enable you to navigate safely and competently and be confident enough to start exploring on your own - we want you to enjoy learning those new essential skills!
