Alternative Provision
Empowering Students with Diverse Learning Paths
Quick Link:
Our Alternative Provision uses the outdoors and activities environments to support children and young people who are struggling to access Mainstream education
Our settings offer a different way of learning.
-
Through a trusting and reciprocal relationship with our practitioners, children and young people will learn to assess, manage and take physical, social and emotional risks.
-
Children and young people will learn new skills that may not have been readily available to them within curriculum led learning. From coppicing to firelighting and woodwork to multi-sports, for some young people seeing a future in forestry or traditional crafts is inspiring and life changing.
-
A better understanding of self, being able to indentify and communicate emotions, and advocating for their own needs supports children and young people to navigate the world as they grow. Self knowledge and self advocacy underpin self esteem and support better mental health
Who is it for?
We recognise that formal schooling is currently not working for some young people. This can often be directly linked to:
-
Neurodivergence
-
Trauma
-
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
Our provision is designed to support children and young people who:
-
Are unable to access school at present
-
Attend school but require additional support
-
Have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion
-
Live with moderate neurological conditions
Due to the personalised and tailored nature of our support, we are able to work with children and young people facing a wide range of life experiences and challenges.
Where are the sessions?
Most outdoor sessions take place at our site at Werneth Low Country Park, Hyde, Tameside
Our main site is our activity centre based at The Scout Hut, Cartwright Street, Hyde especially during winter periods
